Here's a question that's come up a few times in the last couple weeks:

[Poll #825195]

What, guys aren't allowed to have hair long enough that it's a pain in the ass to manage?

I'm biased, I guess, in thinking that what women's hair looks like when it's long is somehow more focussed upon ;)

Umm so in order to protest your sexist survey design i have answered the hair washing question, thereby confounding your quantitative data HAHA!!

Oh and i shower more then once a day in the summerr when it is really hot out, but that seemed information which would be outside the parameters of the question... so i checked once a day rather then other, as this is the more generally aplicable answer..

That is exactly why interviewing is a much better form of social research then surveying.

You rebel and aberrant survey-taker!

I'll get you!!

I put down what I guessed to be the average answer for me. Sometimes I shower every day (it was 2-3 times a day to deal with the heat & humidity in SE Asia), sometimes I'm a lazy bitch and only shower about 3-4 times a week.

Usually I wash my hair whenever I'm in the shower (it feels weird not to), but sometimes I simply don't feel like being wet or being cold, so I'll wash just my hair over the tub with the hand-shower thing (and mostly as a social compulsion than personal desire because it looks more greasy than is normally acceptable).

I hate getting my hair wet unless I'm washing it, really.

As a man I find the lack of male hairwashing options sexist. There are those males in the community who have hair longer than most females and thus have to spend copious amounts of time washing, conditioning, moisturizing, and detangling as well. :P

Again, a guy can wear a greasy ponytail everyday and no one will care.

A girl, however, cannot ;)

This is fairly seasonal for me, really. When it's the summer, I shower every day, because otherwise I feel really icky. In the winter, I shower every other day, because if I do it every day, I feel dried out and icky.

I love the double ickiness of it all!

Blah blah blah, sexist hair-washing, blah blah blah. Whatever! I bring the real issues. Like what's the difference between every other day and three-four times a week? ;) And yet...you got answers for both, so who the hell am I to pick nits? ;)

Well, it's for us variable people.

And really, I was just accommodating myself ;)

Well, I've been taken to task and shown that it wasn't such an issue after all. See my response to [livejournal.com profile] luminifer for my line of thinking. :)

You realize too that we're all going to jump you en gang and put you in the shower!

... wow, that had SO many more connotations than one would have expected.

*raising eyebrow*

Originally I thought in my head "What in the world is the connection there?" which didn't even get out before the OHHHHhhh came stampeding in.

You DO realize, I hope, that the three or four times a week might not be spaced out so that it is equivalent to every other day. They might take two showers one day because they're, say, conducting a genocide against crabgrass, and then stay clean enough afterward by lounging about the house that they don't take one again for three days. ;)

I can dig it.

i actually would interpret it this way:

every other day means literally that... so you shower mon, wed, fri, sun, tue, thurs...

3-4 times a week would mean something like you shower every monday, weds, and friday morning.. and maybe sat or sunday if you happen to be going out one of those days.

but that's just my interpretation :)

I guess too (since I'm one of the people that does it) that sometimes I'll take a shower Monday, and Tuesday, but not Wednesday, Thursday or Friday.

... Or something like that. It'll depend entirely on what (sweaty) activities I've been up to and how hectic my school workload is.

It shouldn't. People shower too much.

Hell, I put down twice a week, but that's only because I'm being forced out among the humans these days. :)

I think I just got caught up in sets. I consider "every other day" to be a subset of "three-four times a week," know what I'm sayin'?

From: [identity profile] luminifer.livejournal.com
you're totally right in a literal sense...

is this one of those cases where you're supposed to evaluate each of the choices and just pick the "first" or "closest" or "most restrictive" match? ;)

if my sister answered this, it would be at least twice a day, sometimes 3 or 4...depending on if she did sports or anything like that. she HAS to take one right when she wakes up, and one right before she goes to bed. she also has pajamas that are ONLY worn while in bed, and then clothes she puts on after the shower, then her going out of the house clothes.......

she's just slightly germaphobic!

oddly enough, no. she uses Dove Moisturizing body wash. or she has magical skin...i'd lean towards the latter.
