I'll admit that I've become sort of obsessed while on campus with watching what people eat. Quantities, types, and all of this in relation to what they look like. I guess I consider it in my quest for more knowledge -- so that, perhaps, one day, I can actually conquer my battle for permanent weight loss.
But the conclusion I've come to is that it seems not to matter what people are eating. It seems not to make a difference! Sure, there are those girls who eat a bag of chips and nothing else. Or who may be eating tastee-d-lite ravenously, and you presume that, looking at them, that flavored air is the only source of nutrients they get for the week.
But there are also beanpoles gorging themselves on pasta and pizza. Or maybe that Tastee-D-Lite girl was eating her flavored air as the finale to her 12-course meal.
I guess too that I'm noticing what I'm eating really only in retrospect because I've been so manically busy with school. But I do notice that I'm paying so little attention while I eat that I usually eat more than I'm hungry for, and I think if I eat one more Big Steamed Vegetable Bun from Ollie's I might turn into one.
What are the real qualifiers of food vs. weight, though? I feel like I eat far less than girls half my size. And it seems to be the general assumption that vegetarians are slimmer, on the whole... [with me as a big exception, emphasis on big!]
I guess I'm looking for a new game plan. I don't know what my schedule will allow in terms of exercise -- I'll never make it to Tuesday aikido since Disease Ecology gets out at 8pm, and maybe Wednesday Belly-dancing, and Thursday Aikido essentially means I'll never go to MT again and Friend Services will take
infd away from me.
So many decisions to make. I'd consider doing laps at the Columbia pool again if it weren't so simultaneously dirty and overchlorinated. I like my eyeballs where they are, thank you. Also, it's so full, all the time! I should check it at lunch time.
Anyway, it's on my mind. Now that I have ten minutes to actually have my mind to myself.

It's impossible to correlate food with weight unless you live with someone, and maybe not even then... I see my coworkers eat so much more than me, bagels for breakfast, early large lunches, afternoon smoothies - but they're all very fit. Admittedly most of them are male and need more calories... or they get a ton of excercise, or skip dinner, I dunno. Some people eat their biggest meals out, some at home, some burn calories via activity or faster metabolisms or who knows. Watching them is a good way to drive yourself crazy.
The only way to really keep track of it is to count calories, which is a huge fucking pain but at least it's objective.

I absolutely refuse to count calories because whenever I try it drives me crazy.
On the other hand, look. Dave and I eat approximately the same amount. I know this because I live with him. I box twice a week and lift weights once a week and occasionally run, as of a month and a half ago. He does none of this. And yet who is stronger and slimmer? You guessed it, not me!

If you're interested in kickstarting your metabolism, I recommend High Intensity Interval Training. I've heard very good things about it from people who have done it, I enjoyed it a lot when I was doing it (and plan to start up again once I get back from London), and it takes very little time.
