Jul. 12th, 2006 11:10 amFirst off, a big Happy Birthday to
capfox!!
Time has been progressing and it is now a mere 5 days until I make my way back to the USA. It feels like the end of an era, and funnily, other people are leaving too. Rosie left Monday, Debby went to Australia yesterday and Annie and Lizzie leave the Friday after I go.
Oh, and Ben left last weekend.
We did have some family fun events. Entebbe Sailing Club had a 70s Disco Dance Party last Saturday, which ended up being great fun. Pictures are here. We also all went out to dinner on Monday night and Lillian P, who runs the Jane Goodall Institute GIS program, was also at the house and I've had great fun getting to know him better.
We probably at at the Lake Vic buffet 3 times in 2 days too. Nicole, who's taking over in Goma with the chimps, arrived as well and she's been an absolute hoot! She and I have both had somber conversations about how we wish that I was going over with her. Because it's true -- with my departure so imminent, I am somewhat tempted to just stay.
I guess I just really hope that I can arrange my visit in January, or find money for it, or [insert requirement here]. I paid for my mailbox in Entebbe through January 2008 which felt really good.
I've been thinking that I should have some sort of going away fiesta, but it doesn't feel appropriate. I'm sure I'll head out with Annie or Lizzie or Blaise even though I'm not sure where or when. I'm back at Janice's now, and that by itself was reassuring too, because there were so many new (and young!) faces at the old Entebbe House that I did feel a bit out of place!
I've been having dreams about being home too. Whee!
