A Parking Lot Full of Money
Aug. 2nd, 2004 02:14 pmHad an excellent weekend --
for those interested, pictures from Moti's goodbye party are here. They took fucking forever to tag, so please go appreciate them for at least a minute :P Also, I don't know Matt's tag, or the other two people who were there whose names have already escaped me.
Right after work on Friday, Adam and I took Mindy out for a farewell drink -- more people were due to show up, but it was appropriate that it started with our little posse. Min and I had a deal to drink as much as each other, so, by the time others had arrived, she and I had already drunk 2 beers a piece and were giggling like fools.
Sara, a Roots & Shoots intern, and Alice, a former Africa Programs intern wandered in, as did Steve, Mindy's boyfriend, and Matt, her roommate. I'd previously not spent much time with Alice OR Sara, so it was nice feeling the looseness of beer accelerate our friendliness :)
It was also cool to spend additional time with Steve -- we made intoxicated promises to start a band and play in the loft of the PotBelly deli. I remember vaguely giving him my card, so we'll see what happens with that :P We'd only be required to do cover music - which should be easy!!
I'd planned to leave around 6:45ish (we'd got there at 5) for Reene & Coby's, but when I asked the time, it was suddenly almost 9 pm. Oops!
Adam offered to drive me over to Reene & Coby's -- on the way over, we sang songs in funny voices with Sara, who called out various artist names for us to sing. I showed up apparently as others had only just gotten there, so I didn't feel *too* bad --
R&C's apartment looked really beautiful -- something about the light just made all the pictures look really good too. I was chagrined to see Floppy, who didn't look like she was doing well. I hugged her a lot. Poor kitty.
I was tired and contemplated leaving early, but instead decided on staying until the end. Took lots of pictures, seemed to have drunken proclivity for close-up shots... Huge pores aside, everything was fine :P
Saturday morning, Mindy came over with bagels from Einstein's. We watched Honey, which was truly dreadful but amusing nonetheless. It was described in one of the featurettes as a "tribute" to "movies like Flashdance" ... I wasn't aware that there was a new 21st century definition of "tribute" ... i.e. "ripoff'
Afterwards, we lounged by the pool like typical beach bums. I wore my silly straw hat, and my new sunglasses and we lolled out, reading and soaking in sun.
I, of course, wore sunscreen, but had misplaced my no-rub spray and used some old school rubby -- and... of course... missed some areas. So now, my legs are as pale as can be... except for the 3 inch area right below where my swimsuit left off above my legs. Owwie.
I started and finished Fallen Angel at the pool, lent to me by Chris and it was good. I liked it. Hurrah for red-headed superheroes. With baggage. hehehe
It was too cumbersome to re-apply (and re-miss areas for) sunscreen after we got out of the pool, so I decided to pack it in and call Mason over. Chris had bought the BBC mini-movie "Neverwhere" on DVD and Mason brought it over for us to watch. I have to say, the production value being nil and all, they did a decent job. The christmas lights at the Floating Market were pretty bad -- but, eh, the acting was decent and they followed the book for the most part. Most of the characters looked different than I'd pictured them. I was rather pleased that they'd chosen an African woman to play Hunter -- it seemed appropriate.
While walking Jarry on Saturday, I encountered a dollar bill in the parking lot. Mason, jealous, was seeking more and trying to hide my eyes with a sneak-attack hug. Alas, there were TWO MORE DOLLARS -- behind him! Mua haha! Which I promptly snatched up. So, $3 richer. ::gloat, gloat:: Luckily, I'm full of love and shared the wealth, picking up some ginger ale for him at the vending machine in the basement :) Tee Hee
On Sunday, I flopped entirely and spent most of the day watching Season 2 of Angel. It was just as well, because it poured most of the day so it was a good day to be indoors.
I was planning on going to
mryt_maat's Storyreading Night -- but didn't want to trouble Mason for the ride. Instead, we watched You Got Served, another firm exploration into ridiculous dance movies with terrible acting and obvious fan service.
"No way. It was entirely necessary to the plot to have the two lead guys from B2K dancing in the rain with no shirts on!"
... you get my drift.
We also visited Bigg Wolf on Sunday, hoping to find tantalizing things. I had to show ID to get in (which was promising) saying that I was 21 or over (even more promising) and got inside to a big room full of videos... like... The Three Amigos!!
Now, tell me, since WHEN did someone need a fucking ID to rent the Three Amigos?? Anyway, very disappointing.
Evening on the whole was spectacular --- easily one of the best.
Tonight I think I'm going to Fort Reno with Mason to see bands and hang. Should be fun. Phones are down at work. Am very tempted to just scan my own personal pictures on the computer in the Pit. What else should I be doing? :) Nahhh...
