I haven't written in a few days, probably because I still haven't been feeling great physically.
But I can no longer say that two baby chimps haven't copulated on my left knee. Hehe
It's been sort of a whirlwind couple of days. Incredible, too. I feel like I should be reading some sort of parenting book to be dealing with Etaito, because the more I interact with him, the more I "diagnose" where his little outbursts come from. And, like a parent, I'm already over-defending him. Sure, he bites the most, and is the most unpredictable (well, to others) but he really does it for attention. And Bonane always screams at Etaito even if it's Etaito and Okeysha who are being bad. I'm not sure how down pat he has the names, because even if he's in the other room and Kanabiro is being bad, he'll scold "Etaito!"...
I'm trying to negotiate with Etaito more with positive reinforcement. I think it's working pretty well, too!
Because, really, they're so much like children. This morning, Kanabiro just spun around over and over in my lap, twirling, until she got dizzy and fell down. Just before his afternoon nap, Etaito was cranky and didn't want to get up, so he just rolled. It was so funny and cute.
I will admit that he got me pretty good yesterday on the right hand. He was upset because I scolded him for nipping my (always) exposed backside area above my jeans. I could literally see the cause and effect. It was sort of cool. Of course, also painful, but still cool.
Oh, and this ENORMOUS hawk flew overhead today, and all the chimps ran and hid under my arms, cooing and hooting anxiously. He sat in the tree, but finally gave up. It felt good, protecting the kids.
We had an incredible rainstorm here the other night too. Finally, the rainy season has passed and we've had several sunny days in a row. I guess it makes me appreciate the rain more, because the storms here are just blockbuster-movie quality. Check the photo in the set of the rain the other day!
Anyway, I wish I had more to say, but honestly, the days just go here. I think it's something here that's making me congested, because I was doing fine, got here, and got worse again. I've been trying to eat better too -- I'd say couscous and tomatoes and carrots is better than ramen + apples. I bought some olive oil and balsamic vinegar, so I've been making my trademarked salads, minus the basil. They might have DILL!!! here, but fresh basil is fresh out of stock.
