Monday 11:33 am
After two weeks without, there is finally water in Goma again today. And, as I went to the small bathroom at the JGI office, marveling over the luxury, taken for granted, of flushing the toilet, the power went off.
Thus with the power went the lights, and the internet. Oh, dark bathroom. Oh, dark browser.
I'm so cranky today. Carol is cranky. Sometimes, dealing with the African bullshit and just being utterly powerless to do anything at all to stop it is overwhelming and frustrating and unnerving and angry-making.
I'm in desperate need of a bath, and clean clothing. I bathed last on Friday when I was sick. But, when there's no water, there's no bathing. I'm dirty, itchy, (probably) smelly, and covered in mosquito bites. If I get leprosy in the near future, I won't be surprised. Hopefully at least one of the other lepers in the colony will be a friendly dork.
I couldn't help but notice in the photos Carol took of me leaving the Chateau Chimpanzee yesterday howthin ragged I looked. I can't ever wear my hair down with the chimps, so it's always up. I don't even HAVE a mirror. I sleep on a likely moldspored mattress on the floor of a house filled with chimpanzees. My clothes, stained with tiny volcanic-muddy footprints, poo, dirt, and everything else just hang off me limply. I'm tired, too. Carol realized after 2 hours of being at the Chateau how exhausting my days are. But more than that, I'm tired of no water, no food, no electricity, no freedom, no swimming laps, no mozzarella cheese, no kitties, no company.
...I told you I was cranky.
I really need a visit to Beauty Tips. Desperately. To be waxed, polished, buffed, cleaned and painted.
*sighs*
EDIT: I know this entry is already a gripe-a-thon, but I have to throw in that the internet is just so slow today I could probably walk to perezhilton.com to get celebrity gossip before it loaded in my browser. I'm also desperate to try and upload the photos, or send important emails, or really... anything... and just failing on all fronts. GAR!
