A Change In Plans

There's something surreal about phonecalls from the US here. I'd compare it with the idea of listening to my iPod while on the back of a boda boda and hearing pop music that just barely drowns out the sounds of the city.

Last night, as I was (mostly) asleep at around 8ish, my mom called me to let me know that I owed money from overdue library books at GWU and that they were withholding my transcript. I couldn't really suss out whether it was a dream, and it didn't help that the connection kept being dropped.

I'm not sure if people realize how truly crappy communication with the outside world is from here...

Anyway, it turns out Ethiopian Airlines doesn't fly to Entebbe anymore. Or that they don't do oneway flights out of Entebbe. Or something. Soooo. Now I'm leaving on the 17th in the morning and I'll be back I guess on the evening of the 17th. Total change of plans! And now I'm on British Airways instead of Ethiopian, and I go through Heathrow (which is far preferable in my opinion!). Addis Ababa airport sucks.

I found this all out when my mom called me at 6 am. Which is really only 30 minutes earlier than I usually wake up, but again, it really does feel strange talking about current events, etc... especially overdue library books... from a cellphone in the middle of a chimp sanctuary in the Congo.


*blinks tiredly* ... Yea.

..and you get BA frequent flyer miles, which are much more useable than Ethiopian.
