Musings on the First Day of School
Sep. 5th, 2007 08:05 amThere's nothing like waking up in the morning in a tizzy. And not a good tizzy. An unsettled, didn't-sleep-well, had-bad-dreams tizzy. I'm starting to relax a little, but it's not helping that
woofa and I have been discussing at length some of the monumentally bad shit that's happening in Congo, right where I was living, right now.
Anyway, the first day of school went rather remarkably. I was reminded how much French I'd forgotten during my three months away almost immediately. But I got into my heart's desire class -- Disease Ecology and Conservation, taught by Alonso Aguirre who does field veterinary work. An excellent potential mentor, if nothing else.
I do feel a difference in my resolve in classes. There are a couple things I am enforcing in myself this year:
Additionally, I will not go out during the school week. I've made a single exception this week, to go and Mahler-ize with
rosefox but I have only one class today and plenty of time to get my other homeworks done.
I also hit the pool last night after class. The Columbia pool is sort of a sad sight -- it's small, dingy, and the pool is SO overchlorinated. I had to stop after 20 minutes because, well, I actually like my eyeballs and hope to keep and use them in the future.
But, once I get a cap and goggles, more swimming! Perhaps at different hours of the day, too. I might end up being an officer in the Aikido Club too, as per
cayenne's request.
Agh, craziness already? You know that beginning-of-the-school-year push where everyone wants you to join everything and do everything and take every flyer and every free sticker?
...yea. Thankfully, the musical this year is Pippin so I have no urge to do that. Bleugh, Pippin.
And now, I'm off to school. If I want to get there 30 minutes early, that is.
Also, I left my iPod in Adam's car, and I'm loathing being music-less on my walk to school. Wah. Off I go.

- When Google Calendar sends me my reminder text, I must go to class immediately
- I will not use the internet/computer lab at school. Except to print things I didn't print at home
- I will arrive to campus at least 30 minutes before my first class
