I went last night to see Grindhouse/Planet Terror with [livejournal.com profile] stephantravels, [livejournal.com profile] hmasturbator, [livejournal.com profile] infd, Rigel and Calin. Now, I'll admit that my expectations for this movie were very low. Sure, I loved Sin City, a Rodriguez/Tarantino effort. But Rose McGowan doesn't really inspire me. And I'm not so well-versed in the particular Grindhouse genre.

We all met up a little early at Montien, though I stopped at Pure Food and Wine to pick up raw-edible foods for me. I figured that Grindhouse might be a film like the first Pirates of the Caribbean -- better while intoxicated. And I think I was right.

The point being that I squealed and screamed with the best of them -- because both movies were disgusting, ridiculous and completely, utterly enjoyable. I even liked Rose McGowan.

The second movie was very distinguishably Tarantino (all the talking) and I have to give serious props to the fake previews between the two films -- I'm dying to see Machete and maybe even Thanksgiving... I mean, can you get any better than a movie with the tagline:

"There will be NO leftovers!!"

I felt like it was indicative as well that, even after 3.5 hours of movie, people universally seemed to stay in the theater and watch the credits. They wanted MORE. After a movie that was longer than Waterworld! I wasn't even tired, more buzzed and giddy. So, we went back to MT.

The evening was like one of those great MT Thursdays when just the right number of people show up and it feels full even if it isn't crowded. We inadvertently ended the evening with Calin bringing his guitar in from his car and rocking out.

I can't say it wasn't fun, even though I didn't get a bunch of schoolwork done. Additionally, Calin gave both me and Stephan rides home and ended up crashing on the couch in my game room. We printed out the sheet music for Me & Bobby McGee and wow, I haven't had such an energetic rush in a long time. I even prodded [livejournal.com profile] luminifer to put together some sort of regular impromptu session.

Speaking of which, I need to schedule the next Stitch & Bitch.

I've completed my schedule for next fall, and may I quickly gripe about the single Swahili III class available -- at 8:30 am on Monday and Friday morning. Could someone have picked worse days for an 8:30 am class?!

But, it's all done.

I should also add belated Happy Birthdays from last weekend to my MOMMA and to [livejournal.com profile] shoujo_mallet (they share a birthday!)

And it's 5 to 6. I skitter off to Swahili now!

It was great, wasn't it? (But exhausting. I spent the whole weekend recovering from seeing it.)

hi, btw...(I found your LJ bouncing around my friends list.)

Hey, you're a friend of Cat & Dmitri? Excellent!

And yea, I guess it was a bit exhausting. I felt at the end of it like we'd just been through a war or something

I just saw it this past Saturday with some friends. I liked it a bit but probably wouldn't see it again. Planet Terror was much better than Death Proof, and I actually thought the trailers were sort of disappointing. I mean, come on, with a name like "Werewolf Women of the SS", you can do so much more! But Machete was pretty good.

I liked Planet Terror better too... Death Proof seemed very meta, even though Zoe Bell did absolutely kick ass.

You didn't want to go and see Thanksgiving? ;)

No, genitals being abused (especially with knives) generally isn't something I want to pay $10-$12 to see. :)

We were actually very amused to see that Robert Rodriguez might actually make Machete (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0985694/)!
