I'm hard-pressed to believe that January is nearly half-over. Or that I'm living in a Chimp House.
Thank goodness last night went better - no screaming, no upsetness. The babies just slept peacefully through the night. I've gotta say, despite my efforts to somehow calm Etaito down, I let the fear of him sometimes enter into our personal interactions.
I'm constantly aware of how far away he is from my face, where both his hands are, and what his "mood" is. I've noticed right away that his outbursts always have a cause.
He got pissed at me yesterday because I was out on the veranda, reading the Silmarillion, and he wanted toeat read it. I stuck it under my leg, so that he could fan the pages, but not actually access the book itself. ... Outburst.
... I guess chimps just don't like Tolkien.
Anyway, the chimps have become fond of crawling into (and stretching out) Red Sweater. I've yet to find any palatable food either, and I think I ate something with MSG or something, because I've got sort of weird rashes on the outside and edges of my lips... Gross? I took my first (ice cold) shower in the bathroom here yesterday, and it was just funny. I sort of feel like I'm on Survivor.
Also, uploading photos has become a huge encumbrance. I might just have to do a mass-upload when I get back to Entebbe... I mean, I can usually send them via email, but that's just not working here. It doesn't help that there's one ethernet cable for me and Carol to share, so it's not like I can just hog the net for a day and get them done.
Even trying to send stuff to Steph has been a pain - all the huge file delivery systems have failed me, so I'm contemplating just sending some CDs on a plane.
Today, a volunteer, Ben, from the UK (a different Ben) is coming by to help me start up here - I've been somewhat waylaid by a lack of materials. I'm just hoping the paint comes today. I'll SMS Jungla when it's not 7:15 am...
